The Antigonish Chamber of Commerce proactively promotes and supports the interests of business in the Antigonish and surrounding areas, based on a foundation of leadership, integrity and cooperation, to effect an enhanced business environment for our members and the business community.

A joint project of the Strait Area and Antigonish Chambers of Commerce. The 2010 Economic Assembly is being led by a dedicated committee of 20 community leaders representing the broad interests of our region.

The Assembly aims to energize the effort to address specific risk factors and recognize opportunities in order to create the conditions necessary to ensure long-term economic and social sustainability for our region. The Assembly will include delegates from Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond counties as well as from bordering communities including Pictou County and Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The delegation is projected to include 150 community leaders.

The Assembly will provide the following initial deliverables as part of the project:

  • Up-to-date knowledge-base about the region. .
  • Two excellent keynote speakers: Mr. Bill McEwan, President & CEO, Sobeys Incorporated, and Dr. Thomas Homer-Dixon, Chair of Global Systems at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo, Canada, and Professor in the Centre for Environment and Business in the Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo. .
  • A panel of highly accomplished leaders
