About Us

The Antigonish Chamber of Commerce (ACC) is a business and community organization with Members representing a broad array of industries and professions.  The ACC is one of the largest Chambers in Nova Scotia.

History:

  • In 1904 a few Antigonish business people met to discuss issues of concern.
  • In the 1940s the Antigonish Board of Trade was formed to represent business officially.
  • In the early 1970s the Board of Trade became the Antigonish Chamber of Commerce

The ACC works on behalf of its members through services, programs and networking events. The mission of the ACC is to enhance the business environment for our members. The business community generates a significant number of jobs in Antigonish, therefore the Chamber's mandate is really is to "help build a better community."

The ACC is a member of several larger organizations giving businesses a larger voice provincially and nationally:

  • The Nova Scotia Chambers of Commerce (NSCoC). The NSCoC consists of people who serve on the 31 individual chambers of commerce / boards of trade in the province. They meet quarterly to formulate province-wide policy decisions aimed at the provincial and federal governments.
  • The Atlantic Chamber of Commerce (APCC). The APCC serves as a federation of the four provincial Chambers, representing 127 local Chambers of Commerce and Boards. The APCC is unique because no other business group benefits from a grass roots base in every community, as well as separate provincial/regional structures. It is a broad national federation which speaks for 170,000 businesses nationally.
  • The Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has been the largest, most influential advocate for business in Canada since 1925
