About UsThe Antigonish Chamber of Commerce (ACC) is a business and community organization with individual, business, and organization Members, who represent a broad array of industries and professions, making it one of the largest Chambers in Nova Scotia. History records that in 1904 a few Antigonish businesspeople met to discuss issues of concern. It wasn't until the 1940s that the Antigonish Board of Trade was formed to represent business officially. In the early 1970s the Board of Trade became the Chamber of Commerce. The ACC works on behalf of its members through various services, programs and networking events. It is our mission to enhance the business environment for our members and to do so on a foundation of leadership, integrity and cooperation. But, because a significant number of jobs in Antigonish are generated by business, the Chamber's mandate is really is to "help build a better community." The ACC is a member of the Nova Scotia Chambers of Commerce (NSCoC), the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce (APCC) and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The NSCoC consists of people who serve on the 31 individual chambers of commerce / boards of trade in the province. They meet quarterly to formulate province-wide policy decisions aimed at the provincial and federal governments. The APCC serves as a federation of the four provincial Chambers, representing 127 local Chambers of Commerce and Boards. The APCC is unique because no other business group benefits from a grass roots base in every community, as well as separate provincial/regional structures. It is a broad national federation which speaks for 170,000 businesses nationally. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has been the largest, most influential advocate for business in Canada since 1925 You are welcome to call 863-6308 or drop by The Chamber's office, conveniently located at 21B James Street with your questions or suggestions.
